October kicks off oyster season at Starboard Raw

October 15, 2016

Starboard Raw in Dewey Beach had a great inaugural season this summer, and as they roll into the shoulder season, they want everyone to know not only are they open seven days a week, but the sweet spot of oyster season is rapidly approaching.

“October ushers in the peak of East Coast oysters,” says Starboard Raw Manager Pat Coleman. Starboard Raw is the only place in Dewey Beach with a raw bar and live oyster shucking, and while there is a lighthearted air about the place, they take their oysters very seriously. Their shuckers can tell guests about the different oysters, and pair them with the perfect little beauty for each customer’s personal preferences.

Those who are new to the art of eating oysters may not know that they can vary greatly from one varietal to another. While some are small and succulent, others can be meatier and more briny. Like those who enjoy sampling different grapes in wine varieties, or different beer flavorings and parings, oysters offer the same diversity in terms of their uniqueness and sweetness.

If oysters aren't quite their jam, don’t worry, Starboard Raw has something for all guests, from avocado fries to burger sliders and salmon tacos—all of which are on special during NFL games.

And if guests are thirsty, this is definitely the best watering hole at the beach. Starboard Raw’s stock is impressive, with two wines on tap, 17 types of tequila, 18 beers on tap, 75 bottled beers and an impressive craft cocktail list, including every kind of Moscow Mule one can dream up. Starboard Raw is also home to the beach’s most popular espresso martini, with over 1,500 sold this summer alone.

Starboard Raw is currently open at 3 p.m. seven days a week with happy hour from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday. NFL Specials run during football games.
