Cinema by the Canal concludes its summer series of outdoor film screenings with, “The Odd Life of Timothy Green,” Wednesday, Aug. 14, at Lewes Canalfront Park. This four-part film series for all ages is sponsored by the Rehoboth Beach Film Society, the Friends of Lewes Canalfront Park and Citizens Bank.
Academy Award-nominated director and writer Peter Hedges ("Dan in Real Life," "'What's Eating Gilbert Grape?") brings enchantment to the screen with his fascinating and uncanny story about a happily married couple, Cindy and Jim Green (Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton), who can't wait to start a family but can only dream about what their child will be like.
After receiving bad news from a fertility doctor, Cindy and Jim try to bury their dreams of having a child by writing out all the great traits their child could have and putting them in a box in the garden. Later that night in the middle of a freak storm, they awake to find a boy named Timothy, with leaves growing from his ankles, standing in their kitchen calling them mom and dad.
Through this unbelievable chain of events, Cindy and Jim are thrown into the midst of parenthood and over the coming months, Timothy will teach them and the small town of Stanleyville that sometimes the unexpected can bring some of life's greatest gifts. James Rocchi of MSN Movies wrote, “If you're up for having your heart warmed... [it] is truly a family fable for all ages.”
The film will begin at dusk, 8:15-8:30 pm, at Lewes Canalfront Park, 211 Front St. in Lewes. Admission is free. Bring chairs or blankets and insect repellent and come enjoy a unique and fun family outdoor film experience. For more information go to www.rehobothfilm.com.
