Orville J. Lomas, died of broken heart
Orville J. Lomas, 84, of Milton, passed away suddenly Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at his residence. In our hearts we will forever believe that Dad died of a broken heart as his beloved wife of 63 years, Joan Marie (Minker) Lomas, had died just seven days prior to his death, on Feb. 17.
Mr. Lomas was born in Ridley Park, Pa., Feb. 11, 1929, son of the late Wilmer F. and Virginia (Jay) Lomas.
Mr. Lomas enjoyed a long career with the DuPont Experimental Station in Wilmington; he also proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He freely gave of himself to his family and community. He will long be remembered as one of the best drivers in the history of the Claymont Fire Company where he also previously served as engineer and on the board of directors.
Mr. and Mrs. Lomas spent their summers from 1963 to 1990 at White House Beach where Mr. Lomas thoroughly enjoyed boating. After retirement, the couple purchased a home in the country where Mr. Lomas loved tending to the yard work. He served on the Lewes Senior Center Board of Directors, loved local stock car racing and NASCAR. He reluctantly travelled far and wide with his wife as he would do anything that brought joy to her life.
He was a great Dad, grandfather and great-grandfather; however, no one, nor any thing, ever came before his absolute devotion to his loving wife. The family takes great solace in knowing that Joan and Orville were apart for a mere seven days; they are together again and forever.
Mr. Lomas is survived by his two sons: David O. Lomas and wife Debra Doucette, Milton, and Dale J. Lomas and wife Sue of Lewes; three grandchildren: Gina Burrows and husband Jamie, Lise Delplanque and Michael Doucette and wife Karen; five great-grandchildren: Annabelle Burrows, Alex Burrows, Olivia Burrows, James R. Doucette and Julia M. Doucette; and his brother, Wilmer Lomas and wife Shirley Lomas, Lutherville, Md.
A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m., Friday, March 1, at Calvary Cemetery, 677 Mount Road, Aston, Pa. Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, March 1, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in memory of Mr. Lomas to the Claymont Fire Company, 3223 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703.
