Patty's brings popular deli to Lewes
Ever since Patty Jacobs opened her deli near the DMV in Georgetown four years ago, she's had people beg her to open a location at the beach.
Those customers will finally get their wish when Patty's opens a second location early this month in the former location of Half Full on Market Street in Lewes.
The new eatery will be an extension of her Georgetown location, offering most of the familiar sandwiches, salads and gourmet foods customers have come to love. Due to the challenges of the new pint-sized restaurant, Jacobs said, she will not be able to fit in a open-flamed grill or flat-top grill, so cheese steaks, a menu favorite, will not make its way to Lewes.
To make up for it, she said, the Lewes location will be offering breakfast sandwiches and a delectable selection of paninis. To ensure customers receive the same quality they're accustomed to, Jacobs said, much of the food will be prepared at the Georgetown location and sent over to Lewes.
“We're just constantly cooking out there,” she said. “We make everything fresh, so we're always poaching chicken, roasting pork, boiling potatoes and eggs.”
Her fresh ingredients end up in a bevy of menu items, including a variety of salads, from chicken and tuna to pasta and bean salads.
“The whole idea is that you can come in and out of here fast and get good, healthy food quickly,” she said.
The interior of the Lewes location will look familiar to anyone who enjoyed dining at Half Full. While the setup is similar, there are noticeable changes. Gone are the tables and stools, replaced with a deli case, where customers can order cheese and charcuterie. Where tables lined one wall, there are now cubbies for Patty's selection of retail items, ranging from drink mixers and jams to snacks on the go.
Remaining is the outdoor seating looking out over Market Street as well as four stools along one window inside.
One thing that immediately stands out is the color scheme. Replacing Half Full's rustic feel is a clean black-and-white theme similar to Patty's of Georgetown.
Jacobs hasn't quite nailed down the hours yet. The store will open daily at 7 a.m., but closing time will depend on the customers, she said.
