"We are excited to do this. There is no central theme to the show. What ties the paintings together is the format. It has also given us the opportunity to introduce work by a number of artists that we have not shown before," said owner Tony Boyd-Heron.
Among those participating is Ryan Jacque, a wildlife artist from Massachusetts. Jacque has been working in pencil for over 25 years. Pencil shows everything in values and allows him to create depth and texture without having to rely on color. He also uses his skill with the pencil to create commissioned animal portraits, particularly dogs and horses.
Jeff Schaller's mixed-media works incorporate representational form with the printed word to create a unique aesthetic language that is both provocative and whimsical.
Lois Engberg is best known for her floral still lifes. Drawing from the Old Master style of chiaroscuro painting, many of her works are characterized by dark backgrounds with a strong emphasis on light.
Kathryn Engberg is the third-generation artist in her family. Like her mother, she is classically trained but concentrates on figurative work. She studied at the Grand Central Academy in Manhattan, where she is currently an instructor. At only 22 years of age, she displays an exquisite sensitivity of highly refined draftsmanship and classical painting technique.
The gallery is on the beach side of the canal at 520 E. Savannah Road in Lewes. For more information and a full list of participating artists, go to www.peninsula-gallery.com or call 301-645-0551.
