To commemorate World Cancer Day Feb. 4, the Lakeside Community Home Owners Association in Long Neck held a luminary ceremony at the Pot-Nets Lakeside Community Center. More than 230 luminary bags were purchased at $5 each and decorated by community members. The illuminated bags lined a portion of the building's driveway and interior of the building throughout a poignant evening ceremony during which the names of individuals honored or memorialized were read aloud.

Proceeds from the sale of the bags as well as from items sold during the reception that followed the ceremony totaled $1,200 which was donated to the American Cancer Society to be used for cancer research. The check presentation took place during a Relay for Life meeting April 30 at the community center.
