Preston Automotive Group announced the acquisition of Midway Tire & Auto Dec. 29, adding the Lewes staple to its diverse book of Delmarva Peninsula businesses.
Located at 18421 Coastal Highway, Midway has been serving the Sussex County area since the 1960s.
Preston Automotive Group Chief Executive Officer and President David Wilson Jr. intends to carry on the personal, customer-focused work for which the location is known. “We will be honoring the history that the Wattenberger family has established,” said Wilson. “We want to maintain the same hometown feeling and customer-focused atmosphere when we serve current and new Midway customers.”
Construction will soon begin to expand Midway to increase the number of service bays, and improve and modernize the customer waiting area. Plans for the substantial expansion include adding 20 service bays to the existing five bays at the current location adjacent to Boulevard Ford Lincoln of Lewes, one of eight PAG Ford dealerships across Delaware, Maryland and Virginia.
When the expansion is completed, Midway will be open seven days a week. Saturday hours will immediately expand to 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to accommodate customers’ schedules. Weekday hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
A key player in the acquisition, PAG Service Director Mike Bullis echoed Wilson’s sentiments. “We look forward to expanding the great service Midway customers know well,” said Bullis. “Expanded hours and additional team members will make the experience as convenient as possible for our customers.”
No appointment is necessary at Midway, which handles all general automotive care and maintenance jobs, including oil changes, tire rotations and installation, brakes, four-wheel alignments, tune-ups and engine work.
“The goal is to get people back on the road quicker when they visit Midway,” said Wilson. “We are looking to build on what Midway has accomplished over two generations. The PAG core values are integrity, urgency, teamwork, personal growth, attention to detail, and community, and we will be focused particularly on the community aspect. Midway is a well-known name in Lewes for their decades of service to the local community. We want to ensure we don’t lose sight of that, and continue serving Lewes and Sussex County.”
