The Rehoboth Art League’s Outdoor Art Show will take place over the second and third weekends in August at the Henlopen Acres location. The league will showcase "The Outdoor Show" collage by Doris Bauer to represent this year’s show. Doris Bauer was an exhibitor at the RAL Outdoor Show every year from 1980 to 2006.
Bauer was a member of the RAL Board of Trustees from 1992 to 1993. She also served on several committees including the Cottage Tour Committee. Her mixed-media embellishment of her collage assemblies included the use of paint, ink, colored pens and pencils, many kinds of glues, cutting tools, knives, scissors, a coping saw and elements of stitchery. Her son Andy recalls that she was always imaginative with common everyday materials. The materials, not always of archival durability, would evoke in her mind expressions of day-to-day life activities.
Bauer would collect paper (including junk mail and magazines), wood, cloth, discarded packaging and various antique artifacts. She could then imagine the beginnings of a collage or assemblage. She would begin the specific assembly of multiple projects laid out on the tables across her studio, concurrently.
As a Baltimore City elementary school art teacher, she encouraged her art students to think about how they could create their own works of art by using everyday life materials, since these were the materials most readily available for little or no cost.
The art league members thank Bauer's family for giving their permission to use her image for promoting the 2015 Outdoor Fine Art and Fine Craft Show.
Over 125 artists and artisans from around the country will participate in the show. The show dates are Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 8 and 9 and Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 15 and 16. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sundays. Art demos, music, great food by Nage and The Point, the Dogfish Head Beer Garden, the RAL Lemonade Stand to benefit RAL Outreach Programs and Docent Art Sale add to the day’s activities. This year’s show is underwritten by Jack Lingo Realtor.
The art league provides two free off-site parking locations and the Jolly Trolley shuttle to take patrons to and from the Outdoor Show. The shuttle can be picked up at the Kmart on Route 1 and the Rehoboth Elementary School at 500 Stockley Ave. Ext.
