Reception for Terry Isner’s Comic Book Heroes set Sept. 1

August 31, 2017

Terry M. Isner's new work from his wildly successful comic book series will be presented in his second annual exhibition, Comic Book Heroes...the story continues at Gallery 50 in Rehoboth Beach. A reception is set for 5:30 to 8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 1. The exhibition will run through Wednesday, Sept. 13.

Isner's work is inspired by pop culture, music, social and cultural issues, product and brand advertising, and street art. "I love to intertwine the commercial world and current events with graphic and iconic images, vintage toys and cartoons, for whimsical storytelling," he said.

Each work is created with acrylic paint, pen and ink, and color markers on comic book pages decoupaged to the canvases. There are layers of controlled chaos, messaging and playfulness. "My art is relatable to everyone - a smile on the wall that, in its simplest form, connects with you every time you see it," said Isner. "The show is like what we experienced as kids watching cartoons or reading comic books and being interrupted by consumer product advertising and propaganda, sensory overload."

There are 12 pieces in the show featuring vintage comics and superheroes such as Star Wars characters, Spiderman, Supergirl, Tom and Jerry, Jonny Quest, Woody Woodpecker and more. With titles like "Got Wood?" and "I'm With Her," the exhibit is sure to be a super-fun show that will raise a lot of smiles.

Gallery 50 is at 50 Wilmington Ave. in downtown Rehoboth Beach, next door to the Henlopen City Oyster House. For more information, call 302-227-2050, email ed@gallery50art.com or go to www.gallery50art.com.
