Rehoboth’s Mitchell retires
After serving Rehoboth Beach for 30 years, Sgt. Benjamin Mitchell retired from the police force March 18, where he was working as a detective.
“We want to thank him for his unending service and tireless commitment to serving his community,” said Chief Keith Banks.
“I have enjoyed my job and the good friends I have worked alongside. I wish them all success in their careers and to be safe,” said Mitchell.
Mitchell, a sergeant since 2002, said he would miss working with his fellow officers but was looking forward to spending time with his wife, Kristen, and son, Trey.
“After years of shift work, I will be home for dinner every night with my family,” he said.
Mitchell said he still plans to be active in the community, working with 302Sports.com producing and announcing high school sporting events throughout the state. In 1989, he started a police athletic league, which included a wrestling team, coed basketball and flag football. That league grew into the Henlopen Hammers Wrestling Club, which Mitchell still runs.
