Sgt. Mark Sweet, a 19-year veteran of the Rehoboth Beach Police Department, recently completed training through the Delaware State Police Department’s Leadership Development Program. In partnership with Wilmington University, the program focuses on enriching individual leaders and how leadership styles impact individuals and groups. Sweet called the three-week program a “fantastic skill-builder.”
“The program gave me an opportunity to polish skills I already have,” said Sweet, “and to learn new skills to help me in my professional endeavors in the department.” He adds that the program offered practical information that will prove useful as he performs his everyday responsibilities.
Twenty-six law enforcement officers from 11 agencies throughout Delaware participated in the leadership development program this fall. The program included lectures, readings, homework assignments, case studies, situational analysis and group work.
“The Rehoboth Beach Police Department is interested in developing strong leaders, those who will help pass along best-in-class skills and serve as positive examples for our younger officers,” said Chief Keith Banks. “We’re grateful that our police managers have an opportunity to hone their leadership skills through the State Police Department’s program.”
