June 14, 2024

The Rehoboth Beach Public Library will hold its Summer Reading Kick-Off Party from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday, June 17, at Grove Park near the Rehoboth Avenue traffic circle.

Entertainment and activities for kids of all ages will include a life-size Angry Birds game, inflatable bowling, cornhole, Kona Ice truck, sack races and a Feelings Rock class with Miss Katy.

Attendees can stop by the summer reading table to register for an adventure-packed program that rewards kids for reading books and attending summer events. All registrants will receive a free book and two tickets for the Wrap-Up Raffle to be held Friday, Aug. 9, when lucky readers will win prizes donated by several generous Rehoboth businesses: Funland, Game On, Gidget’s Gadgets, Kilwins, Nicola Pizza, Rehoboth Toy & Kite Co., and more.

For every 10 books they read, kids ages 11 and under can earn five tickets and a free book; ages 12-18 can earn this prize for reading five books, with the understanding that book length and difficulty increase with reading level. Kids who attend library programs like Reptile Wonders, Hogwarts Camp, and Talewise: Science Heroes can collect more than a dozen unique badges for their Adventure Book; all library patrons will also receive a ticket for every summer program they attend.

Adults can join the fun with Adventure Bingo cards, which award tickets for activities like building sandcastles, visiting local landmarks, spotting wildlife and trying new foods, with five tickets earned per bingo. Those who complete the whole sheet can get another and vie for prizes from local destinations like the Cinema Art Theater, Clear Space Theatre, Cultured Pearl, Devil Dave’s, Pet Wants and Rise Up Coffee.

The Summer Reading Program would not be possible without the support of these beloved local businesses, and the library staff extends thanks to all of this year’s incredible donors for filling every day in Rehoboth with adventure.

Free reading logs, Adventure Books and bingo cards will be available for pickup all summer long at the Rehoboth Beach Public Library, 226 Rehoboth Ave. To sign up or learn more about the Summer Reading Program, contact Shannon Davis at 302-227-8044, Ext. 106.
