I am writing in support of everything expressed in the letter of Nov. 24 by Mr. Joe Lawson. The vandalism that was done to Charlotte King’s yard in Lewes was undoubtedly a racially motivated hate crime, and it should be treated as such by the police and the community.
Continued acts of violence and hate will do nothing to bring our nation closer together. We must move forward in finding whatever common ground there is to help our nation be what we need and expect it to be - for us and for the greater world.
I would encourage everyone to participate in the Dialogue to Action programs sponsored by the SDARJ and the YWCA when the opportunity arises. They are empowering and encouraging. Please do seek opportunities to speak with those who think differently about some things, but with whom you might find you have other things in common.
Hate can have no home here - not in Sussex County, not in Delaware, not in our country. Replace hate with love and respect and civility. We need each other now and in the future. There is no time to waste.
