Ribbon cutting held for the Coming EDGE in Milford

The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Milford held a ribbon cutting and first anniversary celebration for The Coming EDGE (Empowerment Direct Group Enrichment) Inc.

The purpose of The Coming EDGE is to support youth and young adults aging out of the foster care system with educational and employment assistance and training, counseling, financial literacy and housing assistance. The Coming EDGE offers services to help these individuals transition from group homes to foster care housing to independent living, with employment placement, educational guidance, group counseling, and housing assistance.

According to a study of Delaware youth aging out of the foster care system, one in five were homeless. A full 36 percent of them had been homeless at least once by age 27. Only 46 percent of them were employed, and one in four were involved in the criminal justice system within two years of leaving foster care.
