More than 850 motorcyclists rode 55 miles from Rommel Harley-Davidson in Smyrna to Love Creek Elementary School near Lewes April 10 during the 15th annual Ride to the Tide to support Special Olympics Delaware.
Over the first 14 years of the ride, bikers have raised more than $435,000. The ride was supported by Delaware law enforcement and Delaware Department of Transportation staff to allow safe passage through intersections along the route. The ride was organized by the Delaware Blue Knights, Chapter 1.
“When the Blue Knights approached us with the idea of the ride 15 years ago, we realized it was an opportunity to reach out to a group who we believed would embrace an event that involved their passion for riding motorcycles,” said David Halley, president and CEO of Special Olympics Delaware. “They’ve not only embraced it, but what we’ve come to realize is that their true passion for participating is to support the 4,200 athletes who compete year-round in Special Olympics in Delaware.”
