Robert T. Aulgur Jr., prominent attorney
Robert T. Aulgur Jr., 71, of Milton, passed away gently Monday, Aug. 29, 2022, in the company of his family at Christiana Hospital. He was born May 10, 1951, in St. Louis, Mo., son of the late Robert T. Sr. and Melvena Aulgur.
Bob was a graduate of Yorktown High School in Arlington, Va., Class of 1969. He continued his education at the Defense Language Institute, Monterey, Calif., in 1971, Ball State University with a bachelor of arts, cum laude in 1973, and Syracuse University with a juris doctorate in 1976. He was admitted to the Delaware Bar in 1977 and to the U.S Court of Military Appeals in 1982.
Bob was a proud veteran, having served as sergeant in the U.S. Army. His patriotism continued after his honorable discharge from the Army with his enlistment in the U.S. Navy Reserve, from which he retired as commander.
Bob quickly became a partner at the Wilmington law firm of Wilson, Whittington & Aulgur after his admittance to the Delaware Bar, and from 1984 until his retirement in 2015, he was the managing partner at Whittington & Aulgur. He served as chief attorney for Delaware House of Representatives from 1982-83 and as a councilman for Smyrna Town Council.
In his younger years, Bob was a competitive bicyclist, an avid outdoorsman, and had a strong love for boating throughout his life. He had an intellectual curiosity that kept him interested in learning, particularly studying history. He was a longtime member of American Legion Post 28.
Bob is survived by his wife, Melissa Clark Aulgur; his children: Terry Aulgur (Lisa), William Todd Aulgur (Angela) and Anna Klement (Jeff); his grandchildren: Jack, William, Benjamin, Evelina, Conner and Ronin; his sister, Jeanne Whitney (Keith); his niece, Eva; and his great-niece, Mia.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 7, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes, where friends may call beginning at 10 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow the services at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro.
