The Delmarva Christian boys’ basketball team moved to 3-1 on the season with a 67-42 victory over Worcester Prep Dec. 4 in Georgetown.
Senior Xavier Efford paced the Royals with 23 points in the game. Ed Higgins and Malachi Light each delivered with 12, while Mason Bohinski added 10.
“We need to keep the momentum going,” said Efford. “We go hard in practices and it’s showing in the games. Losing to Cape was a good wake-up call for us and gave us motivation. It motivated us to do better.”
“We need to keep the energy up,” said Higgins. “The chemistry has to be there. If the team leaders don’t bring it, the rest of the team follows. Even if you’re doing bad, you have to keep the positive energy up.”
The Royals took a 14-point lead in the first quarter and closed the first half up 36-19. A 31-23 second half assured the Royals of their 25-point victory.
“It feels good to get the win,” said coach Marc Hannah. “We can do better. We’re getting better every game. The good thing about losing to Cape in the first game is it shows us our weaknesses and what to work on. We are in a second year of a rebuild. This was a weird-feeling game. I think our guys knew we were in control, and they turned it up when we had to.”
Baylor Hoen led the Mallards with nine points. Michael DePalma scored eight.
