Royals boys’ basketball team falls to Knights

The Sussex Central boys’ basketball team bounced back from a one-point loss to Cape to score a 63-54 victory over Delmarva Christian Dec. 16.

Three Central players scored in double figures. Cam'Ron Purnell, Brandon Spencer and Clarence McBride-Allen tallied 13, 12 and 11 points, respectively.

The Royals were paced by Malachi Light’s 20 points, including six from behind the three-point line. Ed Higgins hit for 16, including three from behind the three-point arc.

The Royals are off until Thursday, Jan. 11, when they will travel to Worcester Prep. The Golden Knights travel to Smyrna Tuesday, Dec. 19.

He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
