Sabbath for Peace and Unity set Oct. 27 in Rehoboth Beach
In resistance to the rising tide of hate violence, Speak Out Against Hate organizers invite the community to attend the Sabbath for Peace and Unity at 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 27, at Epworth United Methodist Church, 19285 Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth Beach.
The event will close out Delaware Peace Week, a series of programs dedicated to promoting peace, understanding and community solidarity against hate in Delaware.
Fostering a culture of compassion and unity, the event brings together leaders from diverse faith traditions to speak out against hate, particularly during election cycles, when hate crimes are known to increase.
Patty Maloney, president of Speak Out Against Hate, said, “This event is more than just a gathering; it is a movement toward healing and solidarity. Now, more than ever, we must unite our voices against the culture of hate that seeks to divide us. The Sabbath for Peace and Unity represents our collective commitment to standing against intolerance and fostering acceptance.”
The Sabbath for Peace and Unity will include voices from Epworth United Methodist Church, Seaside Jewish Community, Westminster Presbyterian Church, All Saints’ Episcopal Church and St. George's Chapel, Israel United Methodist Church, Islamic Society of Southern Delaware, Metropolitan Community Church and St. Peter's Episcopal Church. A choir comprising representatives from several of these faith communities will perform.
“As we conclude Delaware Peace Week, it is imperative that we carry the spirit of peace beyond this event. Each of us has a role to play in combating hate and promoting understanding within our communities,” said Maloney. “Add your voice to a chorus dedicated to peace, love and acceptance. Together, we can take meaningful steps toward a future free from hate and division.”
