Seeking thrills at Delaware State Fair

The 2024 edition of the Delaware State Fair began July 18 and runs through Saturday, July 27, in Harrington.

The fair as we know it today began July 27, 1920, as the Kent and Sussex County Fair. It lasted four days, and admission was 25 cents for children 6 to 12 and 50 cents for adults.

This photograph was likely made in the mid-20th century, showing the carnival rides such as the merry-go-round and ferris wheel. 

Today, the 10-day fair boasts attendance of more than 307,000, drawing people to a variety of attractions, from food, games and carnival rides to concerts, harness racing and farm animals. At the state fair of today, there is something for just about everyone.
