Senior athletes, alumni honored at Sussex Tech

June 20, 2012

Sussex Technical High School held its annual Senior Athletic Awards Banquet May 17. Outstanding senior athletes were named in each sport, three prior graduates were named to the school’s Athletic Wall of Fame, and a longtime coach was honored for her dedication to Sussex Tech sports.

Coach Nancy Tribbitt announced her retirement this spring after almost three decades of coaching high school sports and teaching physical education. Tribbitt helped begin the sports program at Sussex Tech when she first came to the school in 1991. In the beginning, she coached all the girls’ sports - field hockey, basketball and softball.  Tribbitt leaves Sussex Tech after accomplishing two back-to-back state field hockey championships, 2009 and 2010.

Graduates Ellen Rowe, Hope Cornell and Jacque Bowe will also have commemorative banners hung in the Sussex Tech gym to acknowledge their success as college athletes.

Ellen excelled in field hockey and track while at Sussex Tech and was named Outstanding Senior Female Athlete in 2008. She went on to play field hockey at St. Joseph’s University and was named Rookie of the Year by the Atlantic Conference.

Hope Cornell joins her sister, Harper, on Sussex Tech’s Athletic Wall of Fame. She played field hockey and softball for the Ravens and was named an All-State athlete four times during her high school career. She was named Sussex Tech’s Female Scholar Athlete in 2007. Hope attended Shippensburg University, where she played softball and holds the team’s record in home runs and was named an All-American Athlete.

Jacque Bowe was Sussex Tech’s Outstanding Male Athlete in 2006, as well as Football’s Outstanding Senior. He played in the state Blue-Gold games in both football and basketball. Jacque attended Wesley College, where he played both football and basketball and was a member of the college’s national tournament team in basketball.
