Sharon Smith named director of development at Clear Space Theatre

Clear Space Theatre Co. announced that Sharon Smith is its new director of development.

Wesley Paulson, executive director, said, "We are so excited to welcome Sharon Smith as our new director of development and outreach. Sharon brings a wealth of experience to our organization, in areas as diverse - but related! - as fundraising, multimedia communications and event planning. She has a terrific record of successful fundraising for a nonprofit organization, earned during her tenure as development director for The ARC of Carroll County, Md. We know she'll play a key role in helping Clear Space achieve its mission of inspiring audiences, artists and students through high-quality performances and educational experiences."

Smith said, "I am thrilled to be a part of Clear Space Theatre Co. Like many in Sussex County, I was unaware of all Clear Space contributes to the arts - not only in Rehoboth Beach but throughout Sussex County and even into Kent County." Determined to tackle that challenge head-on, Smith said, "One of my goals - and a top priority - is to make more people aware of the wonderful work that is being done at Clear Space. This truly is an organization that gives back to its community not only through its fine productions, but also through its creative educational programs and strong commitment to outreach."

Since moving to the Cape Region in 2015, Smith has worked as a freelance writer and photographer with clients including Gannett and Gatehouse Media. Prior to her position with The ARC of Carroll County, she worked as a business and political reporter with the Patriot-News in Harrisburg, Pa., and as a business reporter for The York Daily Record/Sunday News in York, Pa.
