Shirley Stickney Livingston, devoted to church
Shirley Julia Stickney Livingston, born Jan. 15, 1922, in Norwich, Vt., was resurrected Thursday, May 12, 2016, at 3:04 a.m. She was one of three sisters and two brothers of Julia and Henry Stickney.
She received a nursing degree from Thetford Academy in Vermont and had practiced nursing at Mary Hitchcock Hospital in Hanover, N.H. She married her husband Dick in 1943 and they had 67 wonderful years together.
They moved from Buffalo, N.Y., with DuPont in 1952 to Seaford, and spent their entire life there. Her life revolved around her church, Mt. Olivet, as a Circle leader for many years, helping in the kitchen with any church function, on the Altar Guild, and as a loyal member of the Koinonia SS Class. She was also one of the charter members of the PEO chapter J in Seaford in 1987. The following involvements of Shirley usually included Dick: volunteering at the Seaford Library, 25-plus years with the Nanticoke Hospital Auxiliary, scouting, dancing and bridge clubs, and always any activity involving the grandchildren.
She will be remembered for her caring for others, shyness, willing smile, and always being ready to help on a church project. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and sister. "Mimi," as her grandchildren called her, will always be remembered for having a cookie jar full of homemade chocolate chip cookies in the kitchen.
Surviving are her daughter, Sue Manlove and husband Larry of Lewes; son Bill Livingston and wife Debbie of Middletown; daughter-in- law Mariann Livingston of Chesapeake, Va.; her sister Joyce Stickney (92) from Vermont; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Richard (51) in 2001 and husband, Dick in 2010.
A celebration of life service for Shirley will be held Sunday May 22, at 2 p.m., at the Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, High Street, Seaford. She and husband Dick will be entombed privately at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.
