As winter approaches, water temperatures are dropping and only the most dedicated wave riders are donning wetsuits for their saltwater fix. For everyone else, the Nov. 18 showing of Skimdonesia will have to do.
Staring professional skimboarder Brad Domke, recognized for riding the world’s biggest waves on his finless skimboard, Skimdonesia follows Domke and his friends as they take on Indonesia’s world famous barrels.
Jason Wilson, owner of Dewey’s Alley Oop, said this will be the East Coast premier of the movie. He said he wanted to show it because Domke’s boarding style is the future of wave riding. Domke has participated in the South Side Shoot Out, Delaware’s annual skimboarding competition, multiple times.
“Our good friend, Brad Domke, is pushing the limits on what can be done on a skimboard, and the type of waves that you can ride,” Wilson said.
Wilson said southern Delaware is a hot bed for skim talent and enthusiasts, and he thought it would be a great place to premier the movie.
“It will be an enjoyable movie for wave riders of all ages! I just previewed [Skimdonesia] last night and I'm still trying to pick my jaw up off the floor,” said Wilson in a Nov. 14 email. “Brad Domke is in a league of his own!”
Presented by Alley Oop, Skim USA and East of Maui, Skimdonesia is being shown at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 18, at Movies at Midway, 18585 Coastal Highway in Rehoboth. Admission to the 45-minute-long movie is free. There will be a Skim USA raffle and other giveaways.
