Matt Sparacino, 45, was the overall winner April 23 at the ninth annual Oy Vey 5K, running 18:43 on a sunny day over soggy surfaces.
Mike Sewell, 53, followed Matt to the finish line in 19:12 to capture the overall masters title. Trudy Dalton, 37, of Selbyville was eighth overall and first female in 20:41.
Marjorie Adams, 63, of Glen Mills, Pa., won the female masters title in 27:34.
The young guns ran fast times. In the 10-13 age group, Ethan Thompson, 13, clocked a time of 21:28; Quade Cummings, 14, ran 22:32; and Garrett Sylvester, 12, crossed the line in 22:35.
Mason Morrone, 17, won the 14-19 age group in 21:52. Chris Redefer, 21, won the 20-29 age group in 26:36. Jason Emery, 31, won the 30-39 age group in 20:12. Enos Benbow, 41, won the 40-49 age group in 21:43.
The men’s 50-59 division was extremely fast with Paul Montinik, 55, finishing in 19:30; Angues Repper, 50, recording a time of 19:42; and Bobby Hutton, 59, clocking a time of 19:58.
The top three in the 60-69 male age group were all 62-year-olds who broke 25 minutes. They were led by John Costello in 19:51, followed by Tim Young in 23:30 and Bruce Clayton in 24:10.
Rick Poppleton, 70, won his new age group in 21:51, followed by Richard Boyle, 71, in 23:32 and David James, 71, in 25:09.
Female age-group winners were: 9-and-under, Elizabeth Shockro, 9, 37:37; 10-13, Alexa Bondurant, 13, 30:19; 14-19, Anna Korpela, 14, 23:51; 40-49, Sarah Butler, 40, 28:24; 50-59, Rode Furio, 58, 27:55; 60-69, Debbie Isser, 68, 28:57; and 70-79, Andrea Hoffman, 72, 35:52.
The next Seashore Striders event is the inaugural Journey 5K Sunday, April 30, in Bethany Beach, beginning at the Sea Colony Tennis Center. The event benefits the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
