Spirituality series to focus on Liturgy of the Hours Aug. 1
St. Peter's Episcopal Church in downtown Lewes will continue its Summer Spirituality Series at 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 1, with a program presented by Ted Olson on the Liturgy of the Hours, in the parish hall adjacent to the church.
To everything there is a season. The church calls these seasons “hours.” In each of these graced moments, the church invites people to respond to the presence of God. In a series of brief liturgies placed throughout the day, people pause, ponder, pray and then proceed as disciples of Jesus.
Attendees will learn how they might sanctify the day with these pauses that refresh, refocus and renew people in their Christian lives.
Olson is a native Delawarean who has lived the past 15 years in Pennsylvania, working as a licensed professional counselor. Ordained as a Roman Catholic priest, Olson has been received into the Episcopal Church and has been active with his spouse, Jack Anderson, at their parish in Pennsylvania. Olson and Anderson have moved to Millsboro and are full-time parishioners at St. Peter’s. Olson said he hopes to continue his ministry here in whatever ways God has in mind.
Following the presentation, attendees will enjoy ice cream from King's Ice Cream. Sung compline will be offered at 8:45 p.m. in the church for those who want to experience one of the daily offices that have been used for centuries in monastic communities to mark the hours.
