When it comes to opening Dewey Beach for business, the Starboard sets the bar with its annual world-famous, action-packed four-day weekend, and several Dewey businesses follow suit to unofficially reopen the town for the 2019 summer season. Culminating with St. Patrick’s Day, the entire affair begins Thursday, March 14, and will be a weekend to remember.
Starboard owner Steve “Monty” Montgomery and his staff will kick off the festivities with a Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce happy hour from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, and then from 8 to 11 p.m., they’ll welcome The Amish Outlaws for a free concert.
“Since it’s a Thursday, I thought, let’s move the time to 8 p.m., make it a bit of an earlier show, so that everyone can come out and enjoy the band and celebrate the start of the season,” said Montgomery. He is excited to see the local crowd out in force that weekend to enjoy themselves before the bustle of the summer season.
In addition to the regular DJs and entertainment, Kristen and Johnny Phatt will have the tented parking lot rocking from 2 to 6 p.m., March 16. For St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, La Unica from the Washington, D.C. area will kick off the action with a 12 to 3 p.m. show featuring a wide variety of Irish rock and familiar covers. The Starboard will also welcome Bryen O’Boyle of Mr. Greengenes and Just the Tip fame, with his full band, to entertain the masses from 4 to 7 p.m.
With so many other businesses opening their doors that weekend like Nalu, Dewey Country Club and MezCali, there are lots of places in Dewey Beach to dine and party at. No one should miss the chance to come out and snag one of the coveted Starboard VIP cards, available throughout opening weekend. For more information, go to www.thestarboard.com.
