Steen’s Beach Service celebrates 58th season in Bethany Beach

Local staple Steen’s Beach Service celebrated its 58th season opening in front of its Bethany Beach location. Steen’s employees and members of the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce gathered on the beach to cut a ribbon for the occasion. This fanfare comes as part of a two-year concession extension granted by the town of Bethany Beach this past fall.

Steen's rental beach umbrellas and chairs have become local staples over the years since its beginning in 1958. This tradition was questioned last fall when the Town of Bethany Beach had to make the decision whether to take on and run such concessions itself in order to raise money or to move forward with concessionaires like Steen’s. Bids were opened in November. To the relief of many locals, visitors and owner Ron Steen, Steen’s Beach Service was awarded a two-year contract extension that will keep the status quo. The colorful beach umbrellas and chairs will remain a common sight at Bethany Beach at least through the 2016 season.

Steen’s Beach Service offers rentals in Bethany Beach, Fenwick Island and Ocean City, Md., locations. All Bethany locations and Ocean City locations at 136th, 139th and 146th streets are open.
