Susie Kyoko Lynch, enjoyed cooking, sewing

January 4, 2024

Susie Kyoko Lynch (nee Kyoko Iwata), 90, of Lewes/Rehoboth, succumbed to RSV Sunday, Dec. 24, 2023, at 2:55 a.m.

She was the daughter of Naotaro Iwata (father) and Tatsu (mother). Susie was born in Gifu Prefecture, Japan. Sadly, she lost her mother at age 6 to a complication from appendicitis.

Susie was a trained nurse in Japan, where she met her husband, Donald, an injured U.S. serviceman at a hospital in Tokyo; they married there in 1956. They soon returned to Donald’s hometown, Lewes, where they raised their only son, Donnie Jr.

She loved cooking, sewing, and taking care of the home, and she was particularly proud of her scratch chicken and dumplings, which she learned to make from her sister-in-law. Susie also enjoyed football and baseball, and often went fishing with her husband and friends.

Her older brother Haruo (1977), husband Donald (1990), and her son Donnie Jr. (1995) predeceased Susie.

She kept herself active, and even after retirement, worked at the Cultured Pearl for more than a decade.

Susie is survived by her nephew, Naoki Iwata of Japan, and his family; as well as her niece, Dawn Petterson.

She will be interred alongside her husband and son at Bethel Methodist Cemetery in Lewes.
