The Sussex Academy Foundation announced July 31 that the Sussex Academy middle school wing has been named in honor of Dr. Patricia S. Oliphant.
Oliphant retired from Sussex Academy in June after 16 years as the school's director of curriculum and instruction, and a total of 50 years in public education. She was in integral part of adding a high school to the successful Sussex Academy of Arts and Sciences middle school. The high school opened in 2013.
Sussex Academy is a public charter, tuition-free school located in Georgetown. Serving grades six through 12, the school practices a project-based-learning approach, and all students in 11th and 12th grades participate in the International Baccalaureate program.
