About 80 locally elected officials, town administrators and Delaware General Assembly members gathered Oct. 3, at the Ross Station Event Center in Seaford for the Sussex County Association of Towns monthly meeting.
The attendees were treated to a tour of the grounds including the Gov. Ross Mansion. Sussex County Administrator Todd Lawson addressed attendees and discussed topics relevant to local government including economic development, workforce housing, accessory dwelling units and property tax reassessment. SCAT President Bill West, who also serves as Delaware League of Local Governments vice president and Georgetown mayor, solicited donations to aid victims of Hurricane Helene.
Joe Conaway, a former Sussex County administrator and chief deputy insurance commissioner, also urged members to open up their wallets and dig in their purses to raise money to support hurricane victims. He said in the past, SCAT members raised more than $5,000 for disaster victims. Seaford Mayor Matt Macoy expressed gratitude to the local officials for their willingness to serve and said, “A win for one of us is a win for all of us.”
