Recently, six Lewes residents who are members of the Sussex Bird Club visited Northern Colombia for 10 days with High Lonesome Birding Tours. Led by guide Stephan Lorenz, the group visited the Caribbean coast, the Santa Marta Mountains and the Perija region of the Andes Mountains and saw more than 350 different species of birds. Lodging in the mountains was in two non-profit ProAves Nature Reserves, whose goals are to protect birds and habitats of conservation concern across Colombia.
