The Sussex Central defense shut down the high-powered Senators offense, and Golden Knights quarterback Isaac Barnes threw an 11-yard pass to receiver Domonique Smith with 31 seconds left to secure their spot in the DIAA finals with a 21-20 win at Dover.
The Knights rallied from a 20-6 deficit after the defense tackled the Dover punter in the end zone for a safety, and went into the halftime break just 12 points down. The Senators were kept without a first down in the second half, and the Central defense held them to just 15 yards.
Barnes went 10-for-21, passing for 124 yards and two touchdowns for the Golden Knights.
Dover QB Jordan Magee completed 6 of 13 passes for 126 yards and rushed for 30 yards. The Knights held Javon Peace to just 36 yards on 16 carries.
The Knights (10-1) will make their fourth appearance in the state finals next Saturday, Dec. 1, at 1 p.m. at Delaware Stadium. They will face the winner of Saturday’s game between top-seeded Hodgson (10-0) and No. 5 Salesianum (9-2).
