Sussex constable named government affairs manager

New county position filled by Mike Costello
November 2, 2016

Sussex County's chief constable is now the county's government affairs manager. County Administrator Todd Lawson announced Mike Costello's promotion to the new position during the Oct. 25 county council meeting.

Costello, who has more than 25 years of experience in law enforcement, was hired by the county in June 2014. He was a Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control officer for 15 years and also worked for the Rehoboth Beach and Lewes police departments and the Delaware Department of Correction.

In his new position, Costello will spearhead county projects and assist county council members with constituent services. Lawson said his transition to the new position would begin immediately with the switch to the job on a full-time basis taking place by the end of the year.

Lawson said the selection committee was not only impressed with Costello's experience working with other agencies and dealing with residents' concerns but also with his understanding of the county government system.
