Sussex County Republican Women’s Club hosts candidates

October 18, 2016

Sussex County Republican Women’s Club recently hosted the Republican candidates running for office in the general election. The dinner meeting was held Sept. 28 at Kings Creek Country Club in Rehoboth Beach.

President Cathy Watts announced that, through the fundraising efforts of local GOP women, the club was able to make campaign contributions to all the Republican candidates running on the Tuesday, Nov. 8 ballot.

“Thanks to everyone who worked on the primary. Your efforts are greatly appreciated," said Watts. Each candidate spoke briefly as they accepted a check to further their campaign efforts. Rep. Steve Smyk, R-Milton, running for re-election as state representative, said, "Conservative thought is represented by the Republican party. We need Republican representation on a statewide level."

I.G. Burton, who hopes to represent District 3 in the Sussex County Council, said, "I am going to take this seat back and get something done!" Rob Arlett, Sussex County Council member from District 5 and chairman of the Trump campaign for the State of Delaware, spoke of the need to support area candidates. "We must turn out the vote in our county. Delaware does matter," said Arlett.
