Sussex Family YMCA to host Healthy Kids Day April 26
The Sussex Family YMCA will host its annual Healthy Kids Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 26, at 20080 Church St., Rehoboth Beach. This free event features a variety of family-friendly activities to encourage healthy kids, healthy families and a healthy start to the summer season.
“At the Y, we believe in providing safe spaces and resources to ensure all children have access to what they need to reach their full potential, no matter the time of year,” said Jarrett Royster, YMCA of Delaware CEO. “This community-wide event offers families the opportunity for a little family fun while learning about the importance of moving and learning all summer long.”
Families are invited to enjoy an exciting lineup of arts and crafts, games, music and giveaways, all designed to inspire kids to stay active and healthy. Parents can jump in the action with their little ones by trying out family Zumba. Attendees can connect with local organizations offering valuable resources to support families’ well-being.
Healthy Kids Day is the Y’s national initiative to improve the health and well-being of kids and families. The goal of the day is to get more kids moving and learning, creating healthy habits they can continue while they’re away from the classroom.
When kids are out of school, they can face hurdles that prevent them from reaching their full potential. Research shows that without access to out-of-school learning activities, kids fall behind academically. They also gain weight twice as fast during the summer compared to during the school year.
Through programs like summer camp, teen leadership programs, sports, swimming and more, the YMCA can help ensure all children stay active and reach their full potential even during out-of-school time.
