Sussex Preservation Coalition eager to participate in working group

March 7, 2025

Sussex Preservation Coalition has accepted an invitation to participate on the land-use working group organized by Sussex County Council. We look forward to the opportunity to work with other stakeholder representatives on finding solutions to the problems Sussex County residents are experiencing that arise from the county’s rapid pace of development over the past two decades.

We are encouraged by council’s rapid action. Members have made a commitment to finding answers, have created a plan for moving forward and have set a timeline for recommendations by the end of the year. As last fall’s elections made clear, Sussex residents want change, and they want it to begin soon.

As we have stated to council members and the public on many occasions, it is critical for the county to ensure that infrastructure improvements keep pace with residential and commercial growth. Without such coordination, we get crowded roads, crowded classrooms, crowded medical facilities, badly strained emergency services, environmental damage and a declining quality of life.

County council has committed to making all meetings of this work group open to the public. SPC encourages those who are interested in future land-use codes and recommended reforms to plan on attending these meetings in person or online. For more information about the structure of the land-use working group or meeting dates, go to sussexpreservationcoalition.org or sussexcountyde.gov.

We look forward to constructive work sessions that make a difference for all of us.
