Sussex residents must make their voices heard

January 31, 2025

It has occurred to me that the silent majority of complaints are from residents and property owners who do not realize they can petition Sussex County Council members with their requests, or perhaps do not know what the procedures are.

To all of you who have read the accounts of the proposed moratorium on developments and the pushback from developers/builders, we as residents and property owners need to have our voices heard.

When you write an email and send it to county officials, it is recorded. The more emails that come in and are recorded to oppose further development, the better. A simple and short email outlining the negative impact traffic has on your way of life; the lack of doctors due to overpopulation of our area; the added burden to provide water, sewer, fire protection; the destruction of wetland buffers; and overcrowded schools is necessary. Showing your support for slowing property development by either a moratorium or other legal policies will push county council to address this growing issue.

If you know your Sussex County district representative, you may send it to your councilperson. If you do not know where to send your email, it can go to council President Douglas Hudson at doug.hudson@sussexcountyde.gov, council Vice President John Rieley at jlrieley@sussexcountyde.gov or Sussex County Administrator Todd Lawson at tlawson@sussexcountyde.gov

This tug of war between developers/builders and residents/property owners must resolve in our favor. Please write your emails today.
