Sussex Tech JROTC cadets participate in 9/11 ceremony
The Sussex Technical High School Army Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps was invited to present the colors during a Patriots Day ceremony Sept. 11. The ceremony was held in the ballroom of the Heritage Shores Clubhouse in Bridgeville.
Accepting an invitation from John Barr, chairman of the Military Club of Heritage Shores, the Sussex Tech JROTC featured Battalion Commander Cadet Lt. Col. Maddie Crimmins singing the national anthem. Patriotic songs were also sung during the program by the Peninsulaires Barber Shop Harmony Society of Salisbury, Md.
Guest speaker was Delaware Lt. Gov. Matt Denn. Other speakers at the remembrance ceremony included former Marine Vaughn Russell, an Iwo Jima survivor, and former Marine Brendan Lynch.
Sussex Tech JROTC cadets attending the ceremony were Cadet 2nd L. Mary Bay of Seaford, Cadet Staff Sgt. Kaycee Bean of Laurel, Cadet Staff Sgt. Robert Christensen of Harbeson, Cadet Lt. Col. Maddie Crimmins of Millsboro, Cadet Capt. Austin Purdy of Fenwick Island, and Cadet Command Sgt. Jonah Riale of Georgetown. Accompanying the cadets was Maj. (Ret.) Ben Jester, instructor.
