Teacher appreciation gift card goes to Lewes Elementary educator

December 14, 2024

Dr. Jonathan Johnson recently surprised another local teacher with a $200 gift card as part of his ongoing teacher appreciation contest.

This time the lucky winner was Maura Nelson, a third-grade Spanish immersion teacher at Lewes Elementary School. Nelson was nominated by student Dylan McGinley at her last orthodontic appointment.

Nelson is currently out on maternity leave but looks forward to using her winnings to purchase some new book series for her classroom library when she returns to school in March. The son of two elementary school teachers, Johnson is committed to supporting local schools and looks forward to surprising another teacher in the spring.

The contest, which has been running consistently since 2017, is Johnson’s way of thanking teachers for routinely letting him “borrow” their students for orthodontic appointments.
