Thomas J. Mullen, American Legion member

March 4, 2019

Thomas J. Mullen (Tom), 73, of Millsboro passed away peacefully at home Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019, under the care of Delaware Hospice and with his loving wife Karen, grandson Ryan and cherished four-legged buddy Max by his side.

Tom was born Oct. 17, 1945, (an only child) to his wonderful parents John J. and Mary K. Mullen in Chester, Pa., who preceded him in death.

Tom and his loving wife Karen met in 1990, married in 1994 and have spent the last 25 years by each other’s side.

Tom retired from Congoleum Corporation in Marcus Hook, Pa.

He formed a wonderful friendship with his neighbor Tom Strawbridge. The special bond “Mulley and Straw” had was more than a friendship - it was Tom’s brother he never had. They spent their time together going to yard sales, sitting out by the bonfire drinking beer and listening to music. Tom also enjoyed watching NASCAR, tinkering in his work shed, and spending time with his grandkids and his dog Max.

He was a Son of American Legion Post 28.

He leaves behind four children: Thomas (TJ) Mullen and his wife Laura of Washington State, Jeanne Marie Powers of Alabama, Rodney Thomas and his wife Debbie of New Jersey, and Michael Mullen and his fiancée Meghan of Bear; stepsons: Lee Wilson and Tommy Wilson and his fiancée’ Brandi of Dover; his grandchildren: Ryan, Kellan, Tae, Cole, Preston, Zachary, Cade, Daphne, Emily and Hailey; his dear Aunt Betty Ostan, with whom he was very close, of Millsboro, Aunt Helen (Cookie) Bogle of Linwood, Pa., Uncle Jim Graham of Aston, Pa., and Uncle Bill Clark of Millsboro; and a host of cousins.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 9, at noon, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro.   In lieu of flowers please make a memorial donation to the American Heart Association or The American Cancer Society.
