Thomas P. Davis, longtime priest
The Rev. Thomas P. Davis of Lewes passed away at home Monday, July 9, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.
Tom was born in South Bend, Ind., the son of the late Jeffrey and Mary (Doherty) Davis. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and was also a graduate of the University of Cincinnati.
In 1972, after completing a master’s degree in Divinity, he was ordained and received his holy orders at Christ Episcopal Church in Dayton, Ohio. Tom served his community as a secular priest for the next 38 years while holding leadership positions at NCR, EDS, and Johnson and Johnson. Tom was a man of many interests. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and sailing, and was an instrument-rated pilot. Most of all, he took pride in being a member of the Episcopal Clergy community who was consistently acknowledged for his thought-provoking sermons.
Upon his retirement from the business world, he fulfilled his lifelong dream of serving small Episcopal churches. He served as an interim rector of Christ Church in Milford and St. Paul’s in Georgetown. Tom was appreciated for his blueberry pancakes and contributions to Habitat for Humanity. When not leading a congregation, he attended services at St. Peter’s in Lewes. Having traveled the world, he was delighted to call Lewes, Delaware home. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband and dad who enjoyed sharing time with his daughter.
He survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Lynn (Walder) Davis; two children, Diana L. Potts of Philadelphia, Pa., and Christiaan M. Davis of Dayton, Ohio; and a brother, Michael Davis of The Villages, Fla.
A private celebration of his life and interment in the columbarium at St. Peter’s Cemetery will be held at a later date.
