Tree giveaway slated at Delaware Botanic Gardens Oct. 12

As part of the Tree for Every Delawarean Initiative, Delaware Botanic Gardens will have about 250 native trees available to offer as free gifts to guests on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 9 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 12, at at 30220 Piney Neck Road, Dagsboro, There is a limit of one tree per person.

“Fall is the time to plant new trees. Please come and get a free native tree to add to the beauty of Delmarva,” said Raymond Sander, DBG president.

The Tree for Every Delawarean Initiative is a partnership that includes the Urban and Community Forestry programs in the Department of Agriculture’s Delaware Forest Service, the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control’s Division of Climate, Coastal and Energy, and other stakeholders.

Stephen Pryce Lea, DBG deputy executive director, said, “The gardens are showing their best fall colors, and we offer guided tours at 10 a.m. every open day. Members get free admission, and nonmembers pay a $15 admission. Children 16 and under are admitted free.”
