A Lewes man and woman are in critical condition following a motorcycle crash May 12 on Route 1 near Rehoboth Beach.
The crash happened at 8:42 p.m. when an orange 2023 KTM 890 sport bike driven by a Lewes man, 27, with a passenger, a 23-year-old Lewes woman, was heading northbound on Route 1 approaching the intersection of Bay Vista Road. For unknown reasons, the driver ran into the rear of a 2004 Ford E-450 minibus that was stopped at the red light, said Sr. Cpl. Leonard DeMalto of the Delaware State Police.
Both the motorcycle driver and passenger were ejected and taken to an area hospital. They were later flown to Christiana Hospital in critical condition, DeMalto said. The driver of the minibus, a 60-year-old man from Rehoboth Beach, was not injured. Both the motorcyclists were wearing helmets, DeMalto said.
