UnWined at the Beach set to open in Rehoboth Beach
Looking to build on the success of a sister restaurant in Maryland, John Bragg is opening UnWined at the Beach in Rehoboth.
Bragg owns and operates UnWined on the Marina off the Elk River in Elkton, Md. The locations are a lot different, he said, but the food on the menu translates because both restaurants are close to the water.
Located on the corner of Wilmington Avenue and south Second Street, Bragg said he had been searching for a place on the water in Delaware, but he was having trouble because those places are scarce, so he moved quickly when this restaurant became available. A bartender from the Elkton location saw the sign while on vacation and within a week there was a contract, he said.
Bragg described the restaurant’s food as “upscale pub grub.” He said the plan is to have 12 entrees and 15 handhelds – tacos, burgers, quesadilla.
There will also be a bunch of seafood, including crabs. Most of the entrees will have seafood on them, he said.
Bragg said he’s looking forward to taking advantage of the location’s outdoor space, especially the rooftop deck that has a bar.
“The restaurant was able to transfer the liquor license,” said Bragg. “I’m thrilled about that.”
The space was recently renovated, so there’s not much work to be done to turn the space into UnWined, said Bragg, who recited the short to-do list – new paint, new light fixtures, cleaning up the flower beds. Mainly, they’ll be able to focus on the food, he said.
Bragg said the restaurant will be family and pet-friendly.
“We love pets,” he said.
As for the name, for both locations, Bragg said there is wine on the menu, but it’s more about relaxing. There’s a real effort to embrace the concept, he said.
During the season, hours of operation for UnWined at the Beach, 210 Second St., will be 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week. Bragg said the restaurant is expected to be open by Memorial Day.
Bragg said some of the staff from Maryland is making the move to work at the Rehoboth restaurant, but they’re also hiring.
