Valerie L. Pennington, devoted to family

Valerie Lamana Pennington died suddenly Monday, Sept. 26, 2011, at her residence in Jacksonville, Fla. Born in Baltimore, Md., she resided in Lewes for the past 15 years before moving in July to Florida.

She was a retired real estate agent and mother of five children: Linda DiLeonardi of Jacksonville; Robin Terrell of Maryland; Tina Wray of Rhode Island; Tracy Kelley of Delaware and Victor Concordia, who predeceased his mother in 1997. She also leaves her only sibling, Betty Lamana Curtin; 12 grandchildren; a nephew; and three nieces. Her husband, Curt, passed away Sept. 23, 2009.

Valerie was a creative and accomplished cook and enjoyed gardening. She loved both children and animals and was devoted to her grandchildren and three Chihuahuas. The arrangements by Oak Lawn Funeral Home, Jacksonville, were private. Donations in her name may be made to the Delaware SPCA, Sussex County shelter.
