Veterans advocacy event set March 13 at Leg Hall in Dover

February 5, 2025

We the Veterans of Delaware will host a rally from 11:45 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday, March 13, at Legislative Hall in Dover.

In a day of unity, respectful conversation and camaraderie, attendees will advocate for veterans' rights during the legislative session that starts at 2 p.m. Addressing both houses of the General Assembly will be James A. LaCoursiere Jr., national commander of the American Legion.

The rally will focus on HB 1, which aims to establish a Delaware cabinet-level position for secretary of Veterans Affairs; HB 31, which includes provisions to protect veterans from unaccredited service providers; and other efforts to support training and retaining more veteran service officers, increase funding for the state veterans home, enhance veteran pension exemptions as many other states have done, and support improvements in the federally mandated veterans directed care program.

Attendees are encouraged to show solidarity by wearing attire that represents their service. This is an opportunity to forge new bonds and strengthen existing ones. Leaders from various veteran organizations are encouraged to meet with their district legislators before the legislative session.

Within Legislative Hall, participants will pay tribute to veterans in both the House and Senate chambers, acknowledging the courage and dedication that define their service.
