Cape’s Mason Fluharty went yard in the in the third inning, and outfielder Grant Evans delivered a grand slam in the fifth inning to lead the Vikings to a 10-8 victory over Saint Mark’s.
“We wanted to approach this game like it was a tournament game, and that’s exactly what our guys did,” said Cape coach Ben Evick. “They played very hard and kept battling.”
The Spartans started off on fire, scoring three runs in each of the first two innings to go up 6-0. But Cape put their fire out, batting around and scoring six runs in the fifth inning.
Saint Mark’s had 10 hits, while the Vikings picked up eight hits.
Senior pitcher Parker Brown came in during the second inning and picked up the win, striking out two Spartans batters.
“Parker came up huge,” smiled Evick. “Coming in in the second inning and completing the game against a very good hitting team showed a lot of grit on his part. We battled from behind twice to come back and take the lead on Grant’s bomb to left-center. That was a huge hit right after we had tied the game.”
The Vikings ended their regular season at 13-5 and await the DIAA State Tournament seedings.
