Vikings swim to victories over the Knights

December 16, 2024

The Cape girls’ and boys’ swim teams moved to 3-0 on the season with 117-43 and 130-25 victories, respectively, over Sussex Central Dec. 13.

The girls’ squad took first in eight of 11 races, while the boys took 10 of 11 first-place finishes.

“We were without most of our club swimmers, who were in Pennsylvania at a club meet,” said Cape head coach Bill Geppert. “The silver lining is that we were able to get quality swims from others on our team. The coaches thought they swam well and garnered some really good times. The development on our team is really encouraging. Central has good talent. They will do well with their new coaching staff. I was impressed watching them with their team.”

“We always say Gep plays chess well,” said junior Sidney Caldwell. “It’s going to be a great season. And even having a lot of the club swimmers gone for another meet, the girls had strong times and did well.”

“We were missing a few key girls at this meet,” said senior captain Jenna Reinhold. “So it was a great chance for some younger swimmers to hop in, and they stepped up to the challenge. We certainly have a lot of depth, and in meets like this, that strength really shows.”

“Coach Geppert has us working really hard, and every one of us has high aspirations moving forward,” said senior Holden Tighe.
