Voting accessibility advocate to speak Sept. 18
The League of Women Voters of Sussex County Delaware will host Joann Kingsley, a voting rights advocate for the Community Legal Aid Society Inc., at its League, Libations and Learning gathering from 5 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 18, at Iron Hill Brewery near Rehoboth Beach.
Kingsley represents the Disabilities Law Program in the statewide Delaware Voting Rights Coalition, where she chairs the newly formed Accessibility Committee.
Her role at Community Legal Aid includes advocating for and monitoring accessibility in registering to vote, accessing polling places and voting equipment, and facilitating the ability of disabled people to cast ballots. It also involves outreach activities to people with disabilities, families and caregivers, legislators, election officials, poll workers and the community at large about the voting rights protected by federal and state laws.
The event is open to anyone interested in supporting the league’s efforts to empower voters and defend democracy. Kingsley’s presentation will follow dinner with separate checks. Participants will have ample time for questions and discussion.
